Students at Richmond State School compete in three annual sporting competitions. These are swimming, athletics and cross country running. Each staff member and student belongs to one of the two sporting houses that make up the school. These are:

We also welcome to our school the students of the surrounding district who undertake classes through the School of Distance Education.

The students at Richmond State School are able to participate in the above mentioned sports at a Midwest and Northwest regional level (against Cloncurry, Hughenden and Julia Creek students.)

At times during the year, Development Officers from different sporting fields visit Richmond State School to conduct additional coaching clinics for the students.
