Richmond is a small town located in-between Mount Isa and Townsville. It is a peaceful but eventful place, and has an amazing history behind it. In a town such as this a small achievement gets a lot of recognition. We have heaps of exciting places for both young and old to check out.

Location
Richmond is located approximately 520 kilometres west of Townsville and 400 kilometres east of Mount Isa. It sits between Hughenden and Julia Creek on the North Western stretch of the Flinders Highway.
Richmond lies in the ' Downs' country, covered by a thick body of Flinders and Mitchell grasses in good seasons. There is an absence of tree growth (not due to clearing) and the landscape quickly changes from brown and barren to green after rainfall.
An African tree called the 'Prickly Acacia' was introduced to the area to supplement stock feed due to its high levels of nutrients. However, it has become a pest and spreads quickly.
Richmond sits over the Great Artesian Basin, and through bores, it supplies the town and surrounding areas water for both consumption and domestic use.
In 2001 Richmond won the Queensland’s Tidiest Town award reflecting the communities and councils pride in the appearance of the town.
